Evolving Design

Olivia and Derek celebrated their January wedding at the Pickering Barn in Issaquah, the perfect setting for the rustic chic wedding they had envisioned. With tons of personal touches and a helpfully DIY-oriented family, they made the space and the day all their own, asking Countryside to step in to take care of personal flowers. We were happy to oblige, pitching in our floral designs for the bouquets and boutonnieres and letting Olivia, Derek, and their creative families run wild with the rest!

The two had dated for 3 ½ years before Derek popped the question, surprising Olivia on her 25th birthday with a romantic proposal under the Evergreen trees and over the river at Tumwater Falls Park after dinner at a favorite wine bar. Their long relationship was marked by lots of ups and downs, including Derek’s deployment to Iraq and some time spent long distance. Their wedding day and ceremony were all the more meaningful because of the experiences Olivia and Derek had shared to get there.

There was so much personality and so many unique details incorporated into the day, it’s hard to list them all. Olivia and Derek originally met over a namesake drink (the Olivia), so they ensured the lemonade and vodka cocktail was on the menu. A relaxed menu from Café Pacific Catering featured favorite dishes and traditional family recipes: gourmet mac ‘n’ cheese and sliders, plus an 18-foot long sweets table filled with “zag” (as in Gonzaga) brownies, marshmallow cookies, and Scandinavian treats such as kransekake, lufse, and krumkake. Olivia’s parents did an amazing job with décor, designing and building everything from a photobooth to decorative letters and a hanging wreath. Not to mention the fact that Olivia and Derek are both huge Seahawks fans, and their wedding day happening to fall on the day of the NFC Championship game that sent the Seahawks to the Superbowl, adding an extra level of fun and excitement to the evening.

Olivia’s color palette fit her rustic chic theme and the winter setting perfectly, with ivory, different hues of blue, and soft touches of pink and gold. The flowers and arrangements for the bouquets were no exception. As Olivia explains, “I loved that I had peonies in my bouquet—for a January wedding! Peonies are my favorite flower and I was beyond ecstatic that Jon was able to include them. I loved everything about the floral design, particularly the antique look of my bouquet. It matched the vibe perfectly, and the gold leaves made it unique and helped the ivory flowers to pop next to my ivory dress.” Olivia has a few pieces of advice for brides who are getting into the planning process. First, nail down your budget, and remember that little things can add up quickly. Second, go with the flow—relax and enjoy the day without getting hung up on tiny details. Third, she and Derek loved that their receiving line allowed them to greet and hug each and every guest. And lastly, be intentional about enjoying the day, and trust your vendors to do what they’re good at!

Kimberlee – so lovely!

November 20, 2013 by

Kimberlee is now  a mother of three!  She has two boys, Hunter, (8) and Logan, (6). Ryan has his seven year old son, Greyson. It was a busy wedding day keeping it all flowing smoothly, but Kimberlee is equal to the task! We enjoyed a beautiful evening at The Golf Club and Newcastle with Erik Franklin taking very good care of us.  If you are admiring her STUNNING bouquet, credit falls to Jon Robert Throne of Countryside Floral and Garden.  He seemed to make it all magical with reds that popped against all the white.  Wishing this wonderful family much joy in the years to come!

OMG!!!!  So Fun was this Issaquah Wedding.. Cobalt, Yellow, White…. Cobalt, Yellow, White…

The Bride Delightfully Pretty and the Groom so Tall Dark and Handsome….

We were contracted to do the personal flowers and just bundles and bundles of

Daffodils for the event…  The Bride and Family really made the Event a Success by

creating a lot of the Decor themselves.

The Most Fun Part of Creating this event for me was the Toss bokay….. Not only

was it All Yellow Daffodils BUT we made it in a way that when Katie Threw it,

the bokay broke apart into like 30 little bundles….. ie   “Exploding Bokay”

And as I had made individual bundles I attache little tags created by the Bride

which read cute little funny things like…. ” You will you future husband tonight

but he will be really drunk” or ” Your Future Mother-in-Law is at this event” or

” Elvis will marry you in Las Vegas” or “You will name your

first child Sebastian”… I actually can’t remember what they all said but they were

Hysterical…..  Great Fun for us in the afternoon when we needed the Floral Pick-me up

As you can see it was REALLY FUN!!!!

Charlotte Roses…..  Delicious!!!

The Mantle at The Mayflower Park Hotel is An Amazing Space….. Great Big Mantle

needs a HUGE Piece for the Perfect Background.

Just remember that you have to move the clock…….

And then you have the Unity arrangement that Justine had provided the Candles

for and I made the Floral piece around the design and then we moved the Design

to the Sweetheart table for the Reception……

And of course you have to have little bobbles for the Bistro Tables…..

Little Cube Vases with small hand tied bundles with green wire and red crystals

in the water….
